The Problem

The Solution

The entire surface of the ocean is infected with plastic pollution. Sea animals ingest thousands of tons of plastic per year, which slowly kills them. However, if they survive long enough to make their way up the food chain to human consumers, humans can be dangerously affected too. Plastic microfibers, created when our synthetic fiber clothing gets washed, is found in a quarter of the fish in the California seafood market. Every bit of plastic ever made still exists - mostly in Earth’s oceans. Sea animals consume so much plastic, that their stomachs almost look like garbage bags upon being opened. There are ways that we the people can help end this issue.

There are a lot of ways we can help save the ocean. First off, people need to reduce their carbon footprint in order to prevent pollution - of the ocean and in general. Instead of driving cars so often, people can use other ways of transportation. People can also decrease their usage of electricity. You should also reduce, reuse and recycle. This will cut down on the amount of plastic used or instead of using plastic you could use paper bags or a tote bag. Also you can use plastic-free alternatives, for example use metal or silicone straws instead of plastic and tote bags for grocery shopping instead of the plastic ones. You sould also avoid food products containing microbeads, and you can participate in cleanups or sign bans and petitions.
